Roofing: Copper

All of the copper that C.E.L uses, in either restoration or new-build work, is specifically manufactured and imported from Germany and Finland.

Copper has been used as a major roofing material for many centuries and between 1,000 - 1,200 tons of it are used annually in the UK.

One of the many advantages of copper is that it is virtually a zero maintenance material. Very little attacks it and a lifespan of 80-100 years without maintenance makes it an attractive and functional choice. It also gives a building a feeling of structure and grandeur.

C.E.L has extensive experience of working with the material having replaced the copper on the dome of Prince Regents building in Regent Street - the biggest copper dome in London.

Facing tight deadlines for completion, the work involved detailed attention to finials and dormers. But C.E.L completed the project to its usual high standards and was subsequently awarded the Copper Development Association's Award for Craftsmanship.
