Although known as a specialist in sandcast lead sheeting and its installation, C.E.L also works with all the main roofing materials, both ancient and modern.
Stormont Castle, Belfast
C.E.L is highly skilled in the use of all the main roofing materials. Whatever the job, you can rest assured that we will supply or source the most appropriate material for restoration or new-build work. C.E.L undertakes work that ranges from repairing or replacing any part of a roof - including weather vanes and finials - to installing an entire roof on a new building.
Whether supplying and installing pipework and flashings, creating lead sheet for a bespoke roofing project to installing an entire copper roof, our work is always carried out to the highest industry standards. Our craftsmen are skilled in working with all the traditional roofing materials - from lead and copper to slate and tiles.
And we also bring innovation to architectural roofing, using modern materials, such as stainless steel and zinc, to enhance modern building design and provide a roof that is maintenance-free for decades.
Roofing Materials
The most commonly used material for many of our roofing and restoration projects, C.E.L manufactures its own sandcast lead sheets at its own factory.
This material is becoming an increasingly popular modern-build option, with several advantages. It is a zero maintenance material, with a minimum life expectancy of 60 years.
All of the copper that C.E.L uses, in either restoration or new-build work, is specifically manufactured and imported from Germany and Finland.
This is mainly used in the restoration of our stately homes and heritage and civic projects. We have many years' experience of working with the material across a variety of projects.
Another material that is increasingly becoming one of the modern choices for both old and new buildings. As it ages, it develops a protective patina.
C.E.L is often called on to repair or replace the timber structure on which the roof sits. Our carpenters have all the necessary skills for such projects.
One of the most recent additions to C.E.L's repertoire of materials is Sarnafil. This is a modern Single Ply PVC membrane used for specific roofing needs.
