The CEL Group solved the problem of getting 5 tons of lead sheet onto a 150 foot high dome with special scaffolding and hoists.

Materials: Five tons of sandcast lead sheet.
Description: Refurbishing the oval skylight and timber substructure of the 150 foot high dome, then laying lead around skylight as tapered bays.

Logistics alone made this project an experience in itself. Getting 5 tons of sandcast lead sheet onto the centre of this 150 feet high and 90 feet wide dome required specially designed scaffolding. Two levels of hoisting were also required before works could begin.
The oval skylight and timber substructure were first refurbished, then the sandcast lead had to be laid around the oval skylight as tapered bays. Sadly, the beautiful shape of this impressive structure can only be fully appreciated from the sky!
